San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio is the second largest city in the state of Texas which is famous for its rich cultural and historic heritage. The city is considered a cradle of the Texan liberty and reflects the Spanish and Mexican influence on every step, while a wealth of attractions which suit just about everyone's taste make Sacramento one of the most visited cities in the United States.

The best time to visit the city is during the Fiesta San Antonio which is held annually in spring since the late 19th century. Fiesta San Antonio is the city's largest festival featuring over 100 events offering something for everyone. But if you miss the biggest party in San Antonio there is no need to be upset about it because you will still have plenty to see and do in this beautiful city. San Antonio is home to the famous Alamo (originally called the Mission San Antonio de Valero), a former Roman Catholic mission and the site of the Battle of Alamo in 1836 which was one of the central events of the Texas Revolution. The mission listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as National Historic Landmark is a part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District which is surrounded by many prominent buildings mostly built in the 19th and early 20th century such as the Menger Hotel which hosted Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Robert E. Lee, Dwight D. Eisenhower and many other prominent guests.

Not far from the Alamo is the Spanish Governor's Palace which is another splendid historic site and a National Historic Landmark. Visitors interested in history will also like the San Antonio Missions National Park housing four of five Spanish missions in the city San Jose, San Juan, Conception and Espada established in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The Park listed on the National Register of Historic Places also features the aqueduct Espada Acequia. Other sites worth visiting include the Casa Navarro Historic Site in downtown San Antonio, Cathedral of San Fernando (the nation's oldest cathedral), King William Historic District and the Aztec on the River Theatre. The latter is found at the River Walk, a network of walkway's along the San Antonio River beneath downtown San Antonio. The River Walk lined by numerous shops, restaurants and hotels connects most of the city's top attractions including the famous Alamo and some other top attractions such as the art community La Villita, the Tower Life Building, HemisFair '68 with the Tower of the Americas and the San Antonio Museum of Art.

In addition to splendid historic landmarks, and numerous fine museums and art galleries, the city is also famous for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo which takes place every February and is considered on the best rodeo shows in the United States offering fun to the entire family.
