Indianapolis, also known as the Crossroads of America and the Racing Capital of the World is the largest city in Indiana. It is best known for its sporting events, in first place the world-famous Indianapolis 500-Mile Race (also known as Indy 500) which is the largest single-day sporting event in the world. However, the city located in the center of Indiana has many interesting sites which suit just about everyone's taste.

Indianapolis is a Mecca for sports enthusiasts who should not miss the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosing the world-famous Indianapolis 500-Mile Race as well as the Brickyard 400. There you can also find the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum dedicated to history of the Indianapolis 500. There you will be able to learn more about history of the renowned races as well as see some of the original Indianapolis 500 winning cars including the 1911 Marmon Wasp, the winner of the first Indianapolis 500. Sports fans will also enjoy the O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, the NCAA Hall of Champions in the White River State Park and the Lucas Oil Stadium which is home to the Indianapolis Colts.

Visitors interested in history and cultural heritage have plenty to see and experience in Indianapolis. The city was the home of the 23rd US President Benjamin Harrison and the President Benjamin Harrison's Home is definitely a must-see if visiting Indianapolis. The beautiful three-story home built in the Italianate style in 1875 houses numerous antiquities, art works and personal artifacts. The Morris-Butler House is another place worth visiting if being interested in history. There you can see many original elements and furniture in Victorian and Post-Victorian styles and to get an insight into the life in Indianapolis in the second half of 19th century. The Morris-Butler House listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as the President Benjamin Harrison Home are located in the Old Northside Historic District which is home to several other Victorian residences.

Visitors who like history and historical heritage will also like the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home and the rest of the Lockerbie Square Historic District, Crown Hill Cemetery which is also the final resting place of former US President Benjamin Harrison, Madame Walker Theatre Center, the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in the heart of the city, the Indiana War Memorial Plaza and the nearby Obelisk Square, the Scottish Rite Cathedral and the Indiana State Capitol Building.

Indianapolis is also home to numerous fine museums of which is most famous the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the largest museum of its kind in the world. Children and families will also enjoy the Indianapolis Zoo, especially its Underwater Dolphin Dome and the Dolphin In-Water Adventure which allows the visitors to interact with the dolphins. The Indianapolis Zoo is a part of the White River State Park where you can also find other top Indianapolis attractions including the Indiana State Museum and the UMAX Theater, White River Gardens, Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial.
