Charlotte also known as the “Queen City” is the largest city in North Carolina offering an exciting city break whether you are planning a romantic vacations for two, want to have fun with your family or visit famous landmarks. The “Queen City” truly has its all and you can be sure that you will not run out of places to visit and fun things to do.

Charlotte is home to several exciting events and festivals all year round. If having kids along you should not miss the Festival in the Park held in the Freedom Park every September since 1964. The festival chosen as one of the 200 best festivals by the Sunshine Artists Magazine offers lots of good music and good arts as well as entertainment to the entire family. If you are traveling with your children you can also take them to the Carowinds theme park. The kids will be thrilled by the cartoon characters wondering around the park as well as numerous fun rides and a large variety of other exiting attractions. If being interested in more cultural and educative sites you can take your family to the Children's Theatre of Charlotte, the ImaginOn, Discovery Place and the Schiele Museum.

Visitors interested in history will enjoy the walk around the Fourth Ward historic district where can be seen many beautiful Victorian buildings known as the “Grand Old Ladies” dating from the 18th century. Worth visiting is also the Charlotte Museum of History and Hezekiah Alexander Homesite where you can learn more about the city's rich history and visit the home of Hezekiah Alexander which is the oldest building in Mecklenburg County and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In Pineville, southwest of Charlotte is the James K. Polk Historic Site, a reconstructed log cabin which is located on the site of childhood home of the 11th US President James K. Polk. The Historic Latta Plantation, a former cotton plantation is another place which will take you back into history. It is located within the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve just 12 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Charlotte is also home to a variety of cultural attractions which include the Mint Museum, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Afro-American Cultural Center and North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center as well as an array of botanical and wildlife parks. A must-see are the Wing Haven Garden and Bird Sanctuary, and Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Worth visiting is also Lake Norman which is few miles north of Charlotte.

If you are into sports, Charlotte offers plenty to see and experience. The city home to NASCAR Hall of Fame which is just 15 minutes south of the Charlotte Motor Speedway (formerly known as Lowe's Motor Speedway) with a 1.5 mile (2.4 kilometers) long track and seats for 115,000 spectators. Visitors interested in basketball may be able to catch the Charlotte Bobcats in the Time Warner Cable Arena, while football fans can see the Carolina Panthers play at the Bank of America Stadium.
